This house was the result of a very enjoyable collaboration with the architect, Bryan Windeatt, the client, the builder and the landscaper. Bryan worked with the original layout of the 1970’s shell, extended the boundary very slightly on both sides and created a marvellous north facing courtyard with a pool which became an extension of the living space. The dark timber joinery reduces any glare from strong sunlight and continues around into the powder room on the left. A utility/laundry room behind the kitchen on the right provides a useful additional work space. Skipped timber floors and bespoke detailing add interest while maintaining the clients desire for practicality, simplicity and calm.
