It’s so satisfying cleaning up a brick wall, especially when it becomes a beautiful warm colour and natural light falls on it for most of the day. In the showroom area of this studio, we decided to work with hot milled steel on the kitchen, inspired by a large Boffi mirror, which is just out of shot. A 12 mm anthracite porcelain top and black sink and tap tone with the steel. The result is a work station that sits discreetly as a home to the classic La Faema coffee machine.
Upstairs belongs to the atelier - where the kitchen sits on a long wall of a compact workspace. The door fronts were made from left over flooring from the downstairs studio. The fridge, microwave and dishwasher are concealed on the left side and the basics of utensils and rubbish are stored on the right. Staff kitchens tend to end up being full of clutter if permitted. The long bench copes with staff lunch time well and the mosaic wall offers a tranquillity in what is a busy creative space opposite. The simple industrial feel was continued into the staff bathrooms.
