20 years ago we worked alongside the client on renovations for this third generation home. On this project Bryan Windeatt Architects were presented with the brief to reimagine the social living areas and to incorporate a new bathroom on the lower level. The previously closed off kitchen was brought out into the living space and an adjoining bedroom became a dining space with a large picture window facing north. The most challenging aspect was working through the kitchen options because while the kitchen needed to feel connected to the living space, it also had to house a laundry and a working scullery for a frequently used coffee machine, mini appliances, a second dishwasher and a wine fridge.
Inspired by the client’s extensive and curated collection of art, a soft and considered colour palette worked best. The combination of honed Taj Mahal stone, handmade tiles, pale green cabinetry and honey coloured Tawa timber flooring provides a subtle backdrop to the strength and vibrancy of the art.
