A detailed brief is the most helpful start to a project. We had clear instruction for the material palette to use on this project which was perfectly suited to the style of this beautifully spacious 1920’s home in Orakei Road.
Sensitive to the client’s wishes to create a more social kitchen, we wanted to keep the sense of formality. The butler’s pantry to the side allows additional bench space, a sink and dishwasher. The antiqued mirror backsplash reflects the family room - reflecting the architectural features and traditional furniture into the kitchen and creating a harmony between the kitchen and architecture.
The kitchen palette was continued into the bathrooms, the most sumptuous of which is the master ensuite - accessed via a short hallway with mirror doors and a walk in wardrobe, housing the client's extensive shoe collection.
Working with this material palette highlighted the importance of detailing the finish between the ‘new’ elements and where they meet the house. It goes beyond the style of the cabinetry and looks at how it is integrated with architecture.
