We enjoyed designing the kitchen, bookshelves, bathrooms and laundry spaces of a significant refurbishment of this beautiful family home by Pattersons Associates.
Functional design using quality materials with an aim to creating a sense of timelessness were key to this project. In the ’U’ shaped kitchen configuration we pushed the boundaries a little. With the architects’ help, the tall units were partially recessed into the pantry which gave them a more elegant tall form and permitted a longer social peninsula. The long 4 burner cooktop is set back to enable space for food preparation - the sleek rangehood above made possible by a power pack and remote mounted motor located in the wall units. This provided the canvas for the beautiful Alarti marble backsplash to be appreciated from the other end of the living room, where we designed a bookshelf and media unit - inspired by the Italian ‘parete attrezzata’.
The bathrooms are simple and elegant, situated on the south side of the house lending themselves to light coloured porcelain finishes with metal detailing.
After much deliberation the laundry was relocated to the first floor. The result is an extended space, with a drying rack running the full length. Underneath is a generous benchtop, two heated towel rails and dedicated low shelving for laundry baskets.
