This north facing kitchen has an amazing view of the Orakei basin and Auckland Harbour. Part of the brief was to be aware of the glare from the afternoon sun. We kept the kitchen as far back in the kitchen space as possible and used a dark leathered granite which helped. The client’s daughter was passionate about cake making so we had requirements to house more than the average amount of baking equipment. We had fun with the backsplash behind the cooking area - porcelain was a new product at this time and we used it on the central panel behind the cooktop with sliding panels on either side to house condiments. To have a good client brief is always a great way to start a kitchen design.
